The organisation is registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO) and complies with all the legal requirements of the Republic of South Africa. |

KZN CMD started informally with poverty alleviation from within the Dutch Reformed Church in 1865. The work was more formally structured with the establishment of Greytown Children’s Home in 1919 as the first children’s home in KZN. More welfare programmes in all communities in the Province developed informally over the years. With legislation in place, the organisation registered in 1951 as a welfare organisation. |

To co-ordinate and develop the compassionate services of participating churches, other organisations in KZN and to render Christian based social prevention, provision and after-care services to all people in material, social and spiritual need irrespective of race, gender or religion. |
